Hi.

I’m Jeffrey Nieves, a copywriter with a focus in branding and naming. I’ve worked with agencies such as Landor, Interbrand, Lippincott and The Naming Group. Here, you’ll find examples of my work in various mediums.

However, much of my branding and naming work is internal facing and confidential (not exactly web friendly). But I’d be happy to share, if you’d be so kind as to send me an email.

I creative directed this album cover for La Cosa Nostra, an up and coming rock band.  The concept was to visualize the frantic nature of their music by making the cover look like the last desperate testimony  of a person who has been hunted down and is about to be murdered.

I was part of the naming team at Landor Associates that developed this name for Citi. I also wrote this sample ad, that was used to present the name to the client.

I love melody and there’s constantly one banging around my head. I also think songwriting is the perfect exercise for a copywriter.  You need to be succinct and tell a story in 3:00. Enjoy

Lyrics:

I know I’m, Just a fool

For your love, And time goes bye

But it slows, when you close

Don’t you know if you want me,

Don’t you know I’ll be yours

All that I am, is out on the table

Hoping you’ll find reason to want me

And when you’re gone, I feel you around me,

Ghosts in my bed, words that you told me

Maybe I’m wrong, maybe I’m lonely

Baby I’m yours, Baby I’m only

I developed this tagline for Te Ilum, an up and coming theater company.  After growing a long list of flashy tags, this once again proved that sometimes the simplest answer is the best one(a lot of the times actually).

This is an article I wrote for pinkraygun.com.  The basic premise was Kirk vs. Picard.  Yes this a fairly geeky question, but I wrote the article to test a theory.  My theory was that if you give people a simple conflict, in an article, that they will feel compelled to respond. The results seemed to suggest I was right. Check it out here

This was fun to write. The concept was to present the band as unassuming every-men with a punk, almost blue collar, cool.  DId I capture it?  You be the judge.
Bio:
La Cosa Nostra comes from a town that you probably haven’t heard of, and as far they know, their parents aren’t famous. They aren’t here to save the world, and they definitely aren’t here to save the music industry. La Cosa Nostra is here to do one thing: Play music they believe in.Their sound is a mix of breakneck punk beats, colliding with smooth jazzy grooves, being torn to shreds by an unrelenting guitar assault.Their sound is raw, intense, and challenging in an industry that rewards simple, brainless, and accessible. Maybe that makes them dreamers, or maybe it makes them sane. Who knows, and honestly, who cares?Read more: http://www.myspace.com/lacosanostra44#ixzz150aWZnGR
